    Hi,

It’s a nice presentation, but I personally do not 100% agree with it.

I’m not sure about the following points of the article:

    “Always available”

    > Offline HTML does that too

    “Front of mind”

    > Apps that contain publications in full html can be published in Newsstand, too. Correct?

    “Automatic reminders”

    > publications that render content in html can offer push notifications

    “Discovery and promotion”

    > Apps that feature html publications can also be featured on the AppStore

    “App updates”

    > Such as the ability to re-export the publication in full html5 ;-)

I don’t think native apps are the only solution for digital publishing.

I thought Aquafadas was “the easy way to publish everywhere”, isn’t it?

    Hi Patrocle,

you are right, as the easy way to publish everywhere, we shouldn’t reduce our offer to native apps.

And we don’t ;-) Our Digital Publishing System do offer different formats for export: ePUB, WebReader and native apps.

And we are working on new formats (like Open EFT, a standard format for digital magazine).

Your remarks are very relevant, and give me the opportunity to develop:

    “Always available”

    > Offline HTML does that too

    > yes, but the memory space is limited for WebApp. You can’t publish all the photos and videos you want. Native apps provide a better rendering and more interactive animations.

    “Front of mind”

    > Apps that contain publications in full html can be published in Newsstand, too. Correct?

    > WebApp are not compatible with the OS’ features. For iPad and iPhone, that means that WebApps are not compatible with NewsStand. As a publisher, you miss a lot of marketing features offered by NewsStand without a native app.

    “Automatic reminders”

    > publications that render content in html can offer push notifications

    >Push Notifications on iPad and iPhone are a service provided by iOS. A WebApp cannot use iOS’ Push Notifications.

    “Discovery and promotion”

    > Apps that feature html publications can also be featured on the AppStore

    >Unfortunately no. For example, Apple AppStore only features native apps.

    “App updates”

    > Such as the ability to re-export the publication in full html5 ;-)

    >Yes, you’re absolutely right. It’s a huge advantage of WebApp. To overcome this difficulty, Aquafadas provides updated App Templates. So, even with a native app, you can always be updated.

I hope this information helps you understand the complex world of Native Apps and WebApps ;-)
